Winston-Salem Police Officer, Corporal Michael Allison Bowens, Sr., 52, died unexpectedly at his home on May 9, 2015.

A native of Fayetteville, NC, Michael A. Bowens, Sr. was born on November 11, 1962 to the late Benjamin Lewis Bowens, Jr. and Nellie Gilmore Bowens.

In 1990 he joined the Winston-Salem Police Department, where he served for 25 years.

Michael earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Criminal Justice Technology from Forsyth Technical Community College (2005), a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies from Winston-Salem State University (2008), and a Master of Science in Adult Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (2011). He was also a PhD student in the Leadership Studies program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

Michael leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 13 years, Pamela "Tracie" Hunter Bowens; two sons, Michael Allison Bowens, Jr. and Senior Airman William Benjamin Bowens; his mother, Nellie Gilmore Bowens; sister, Jackie R. Bowens; two brothers, Andre W. Bowens of Fayetteville, NC and Patrick B. Bowens (Michelle) of Stafford, VA; father-in-law, Harold Junior Hart of Troutman, NC; mother-in-law, Jackie Frazier Coleman of Louisville, KY; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 12noon Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Goler Memorial AME Zion Church, 620 N. Patterson Ave. W-S, NC with Rev. Dr. George Banks officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
