Michael Lee Long, age 64, was born on February 10, 1953, in Winston-Salem, NC to Jesse Edward Long and Mildred Robinson Long. Michael peacefully departed this life at The Hospice & Palliative Care Center in Winston Salem, NC surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

Michael attended Carver Crest, Paisley, and graduated from Atkins High School.  Michael thoroughly enjoyed his God Given Gift of Landscaping. He was the owner-operator of ATOC Lawn and Tree Services. Michael had a strong work ethic that was admired by many. In his spare time, he also enjoyed spending time with his family, taking all of the kids in the family to the Barnum and Bailey Circus year after year. He also enjoyed cooking and was very hospitable.  Michael had a love for baseball and was an incredible Chess player in which he won several tournaments. Michael also had an amazing sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh.

He has now been reunited with his parents, Jesse Edward Long and Mildred Robinson Long; his son, Eric Lewis; and his two sisters, Linda Long and Jessie Ann Long-Brantley.

Michael is survived by his children, Dr. Kedrick (Siti) Lowery, Meshia Jackson, and Michael Rucker; grandchildren, Amiya Moore, Cameron Love, Layla Grayce Lowery, and Zebbi Williams; his sisters, Jennifer Long, Karen Long Keit, and Darlene (Bruce) Foust-Ziglar; a brother, Jimmy (Jean) McKinney; and a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces.

Michael formed many great friendships and close bonds with family and friends that lasted a lifetime. He will be greatly missed and remain forever in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Friday, October 12, 2017 at Union Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Friday at the Church.
