Mr. Michael O'Neil Blackmon, 71, was born August 27, 1951 to the late Marvin Blackmon, Sr. and Helen T. Blackmon in Winston-Salem, NC.  He gained his heavenly wings Thursday, August 10, 2023 after an extended period of illness.

Michael was a graduate of Atkins High School Class of 1969.  Known for his love of singing; while in high school, he was a member of the Imperial Temps, singing in the Atkins Variety Show and across Winston-Salem. He attended Winston-Salem State University.  He was a lifelong member of Hanes Memorial CME Church where he sang on various choirs (HMC Chorale and Celestial Voices) and formerly served on the steward board. He retired from Lentz Transfer & Storage after many years of service.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael.

Mr. Blackmon is survived by his dear son, Marlon; his beloved mother, Helen T. Blackmon; devoted brother, Marvin (Naomi) Blackmon, Jr. all of Winston-Salem, NC; aunt, Louise T. McCullough; cousin, Carolyn (Harry) Henderson; niece, Monica (Marques) Johnson; great-nieces, Lauren, Ava, and Zoe; special and devoted friend, Janice Kellum; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will held at 11:30am Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clarence Cox, III, officiating and Rev. Frank H. Smith, eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Wednesday at the Chapel.
