Melvin Lamar Daniels, Sr. was born on August 25, 1945 to the union of Joe Roy Daniels and Eula Mae Hickman Daniels in Iredell County. Melvin received his formal education in the Iredell County/Statesville Public School System as well as attending Livingstone College. Later he joined the United States Army, training in the Special Forces, becoming a Green Beret and he fought in Vietnam. He was also a black belt in Karate.
Melvin accepted Christ as his savior early on at St. Joseph Baptist Church in Statesville, NC. Upon moving to Winston-Salem, he joined New Jerusalem Baptist under the direction of Rev. Samuel Cornelius and later he joined Union Baptist Church under the direction of Bishop Sir Walter L. Mack, Jr.
On April 5, 1969 he was united with the love of his life, Belinda Napper Daniels. To this union four children were born.
Melvin was employed by Schlitz, as known as Stroh's Brewery, where he served dutifully for thirty years and retired in August 1998.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bobby Daniels, Louise Daniels, John D. Daniels, James E. Daniels, Thomas L. Daniels, John Curtis "Jimmy" Daniels, Leila Daniels Woods, Eloise Daniels, Clarence "Sneak" Daniels, Joseph Daniels, and a set of twin sisters; and his sister-in-law, Constance Daniels.
To this legacy of love he leaves to cherish his memories to his wife of 49 years, Belinda of the home; three sons, Richard, Sr. (Anissa), Darron, Sr., and Melvin, Jr. (Eurica) all of Winston-Salem, NC; one daughter, Kynya (Brian) Milam of Winston-Salem, NC; proud Grandfather of ten grandchildren, Richard, Jr., Darron, Jr., Ontario, Brianna M., Brianna, Rachard, Ariana, Erin, Ricco, and Melvin, III.; one great-granddaughter, Kaylyn; one brother, Larry, Sr. of Winston-Salem, NC; four sisters, Ruth Lackey of Hiddenite, NC, Dolliether Daniels of Statesville, NC, Mary Jean (Dr. Lonnie) Gray of Charlotte, NC, and Louise Daniels of Long Branch, NJ; three brothers-in-law, Larry (Bonita) Napper, Rev. Warren (Linda) Napper, and Jonathan Napper; five sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jean Hymes, Berlene Smith, Carolyn Napper, Wynette Napper, and Laverne Edwards; he is further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends including his Godchildren, Jacinta Turner, Samantha Stith, Jerry Hairston, Jr., Arif Bilal, and Anniya Reeves.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Union Baptist Church with Bishop Sir Walter Mack, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Baptist Church Cemetery, 413 Trinity Road Statesville, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Thursday at the Church.
