Melvin Chaplin, Sr. of 1624 Rockford Street, a native of Mocksville, NC, son of the late Robert and Catherine Mason Chaplin, passed away June 29, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He retired from WSSU after 37 years of employment and was a member of Campbell City Elks Lounge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Melvin Chaplin, Jr.; three brothers, Robert, Willie, and Alfonzo Chaplin; and two sisters, Margaret and Minnie Chaplin.
He leaves to cherish and mourn his dedicated, loving, and devoted wife, Dorothy G. Chaplin; two daughters, Francina C. Dobson and Tomeka Chaplin; two sons, Rodger and Isaac Chaplin; a child who he raised, Isaiah Paige; four grandchildren, Joseph R. Dobson, Jr., James V. Tyner, Melvinia James, and Mel James; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Margie Rice; one sister-in-law, Gladyes Lee; a devoted friend, Charlene James; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Paul Thombs officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1:30pm until 2pm on Wednesday at the Chapel.
