Melvin Curtis Beaty Sr. was born January 14th , 1932 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late John Beaty and Ella Duckett. He was called to his eternal resting place on May 15th, 2014 due to lengthy illnesses at Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home.
Melvin served as an Infantry, Paratrooper in the United States Army from December 9th , 1952 to December 8th , 1955 in which he served proudly in the Korean War. Melvin was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Garden of Iris Temple no. 220; an active member of the American Legion Post 220 as a Legion recruiter for over 35 years. Melvin received many accolades and was recognized for his contributions to the organization while serving in several different positions for Post 220. As a member of the American Legion he personally coordinated and supported numerous events such as the annual Oxford Orphanage Toys for Tots drives, Memorial/Veteran's Day Parades, and various Community Support Groups. He was a member of Phillips Chapel Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend T.C. Phillips.
He leaves to mourn his Wife Dorothy Mae Beaty to whom he was married to for 46 years, Three sons: Melvin Curtis Beaty Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brian Keith Beaty of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Gerald Lynn Beaty of Winston-Salem, north Carolina. His Daughter-in-law: Eurika Donella AdamsBeaty of Colorado Springs, Colorado, his six Grandchildren: Keshawn Deandre Beaty of Charlotte, North Carolina, Briana Kymani Beaty Winston-Salem NC, Aniya Simone Beaty of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jakai Nassier Beaty Winston-Salem NC, Tameea Grace Beaty Winston-Salem NC, and John Curtis Beaty of Colorado Springs, Colorado. His Siblings: John Beatty of Detroit, Michigan , Curtis Beatty of Detroit, Michigan, Michelle Beatty of Detroit, Michigan and Raynelle Beatty of Detroit, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, May 19, 2014 at Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
