Melinee LaVerne Allen, 71, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 in Fayetteville, NC at her home. Melinee was the daughter of Dr. Hobart T. Allen and Bessie L. Allen.
Melinee Laverne Allen was born June 18, 1945 in Winston-Salem, NC. Melinee was a graduate of Bishop McGuiness High School, June 1963. She received her undergraduate degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, majoring in Physical Education. She completed the Master of Arts Degree in Computer Science from NOVA University in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Melinee was a physical education teacher and track & field coach at Emanuel Benjamin Oliver Elementary School in St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands for more than 36 years before she retired and moved to Fayetteville, NC.
Melinee became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in 1969, Kappa Chapter (city) in Indianapolis, IN. She was a life member and a general member. Melinee enjoyed working with school aged children as a mentor and supporter.
Melinee is survived by her daughter Malene Sanga Allen; her brothers, Dr. Theodore Lee (Carolyn) Allen of Fayetteville, NC and Dr. Harvey H. (Simona) Allen of Winston-Salem; her sister, Mrs. Jean Carolyn Payne of Detroit, MI; nieces and nephews, Dr. Gail Allen, Dr. Harvey Allen Jr., Theodore L. Allen Jr., Jamila G. Allen, Dr. David Payne, Phillip Payne, Diahnne Payne, and Solomon Payne Jr.; a host of cousins, grand nieces, nephews, and close friends including, Mrs. Eleanor S. Kay, Mrs. Diane W. Ceasar, Dr. Caroline L. Lattimore, Mrs. Romain Carter and Maxine Fredricks.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Evergreen Cemetery. The AKA Ivy Beyond the Wall Ceremony will be held at 10:30am at the Cemetery.
