Mother Mattie Pearl Samuels was born to the late Fred and Alice Johnson-Samuels on April 15, 1938.  On Friday, June 12, 2020 she transitioned from Earth to Glory.

Mother Mattie attended the WS/FCS System and graduated from Atkins High School.  Mattie was a licensed cosmetologist and was employed by the City of WS for over 30 years.

Mother Mattie was a lifelong member of Macedonia Worship Center, formerly known as Macedonia TVPH Church of God, Inc.  Mattie sang on various choirs including the Jr. Choir, Senior Choir, and the S.D. Johnson Celestial Mass Choir.  Mattie was a member of the Sunday School Department and became a teacher for the Sunday School Department.  She was a member of the HTU, a member of The ECA Society, member of the Mother's Board, member of the Pastor Auxiliary Support Ministries, and she was over the Culinary Department of the TVPH Churches.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughters, Stephanie Samuels and Wendy Samuels; brothers, William, Jesse, Paul, James, and Nolan Samuels; and her sisters, Elizabeth Johnson, Barbara S. Valentine, Alice Samuels, Doretha Samuels, and Gloria Samuels-Powell.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Frederick Samuels, Marilyn S. (Elder Maurice) Jackson, Stephen Samuels, and Karen Samuels; nieces and a nephew whom she raised, Regina (Minister Dennis) Webb, Carol Samuels, Sherrill Lash, Jill (Jesse) Grant, Pamela Samuels, and Russell (Natalie) Daniels; a loving and supportive brother and sisters-in-law, Thomas Lee (Sara) Samuels and Mary Elizabeth Samuels; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, June 19, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2020.
