Mattie Lee Edwards Neal, 93, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Neal was the widow of Holt Neal and daughter of the late Belton and Amanda Edwards.

Mrs. Neal was retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System where she taught Special Education. She graduated from Atkins High School, and Winston-Salem Teachers College (Winston-Salem State University).

She was a member of Winston-Salem First Assembly of God Church, Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. National Sorority, the National Educational Association, the North Carolina Association of Educators, and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System Classroom Teachers Association.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Carolyn Neal of Winston-Salem, NC; three grandchildren, Monique (Keith) Merritt of Bear, DE, Michael Neal of San Antonio, TX, and Monica Neal of Bear, DE; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, Janet (Alvin) Atkinson and Jean (James) Roussou both of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday, March 31, 2014 at Winston-Salem First Assembly of God. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Monday at the Church.
