Mrs. Mattie McClendon, 89, was born October 16, 1926. She departed this life on August 1, 2016. She attended High School in Hogansville, Georgia where she was a member of basketball team and later attended Savannah State College and earned a degree in Social Work.

She worked for over 30 years as a social worker at Forsyth County Department of Social Services.
Mattie was active in Gamma Phi Delta organization, the Monticello Park community organization, and the TWIGS organization.
She attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church for many years and was a deaconess, member of
The Sara Circle, and founder of the Hospitality Repass committee for Mt. Zion.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband and collecting mugs displaying the many locations where they had traveled. In addition to traveling she enjoyed reading novels, gardening and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.
She leaves to mourn her two daughters Marilyn McClendon Maycock (Wayne) and Angela McClendon Parker (Melvin); 3 grandchildren, Eric Thornton, Malissa Thornton and Aleah Parker; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Friday, August 5, 2016 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Friday at the Church.
