Obituary

Our loving mother and grandmother, Mattie Lee Lincoln McMillan was born June 15, 1934 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late James Ervin Lincoln and Mozell Shannon Lincoln.  On Friday morning, April 12, 2024 our mother and grandmother transitioned from this life into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mattie graduated from Carver High School and attended Winston-Salem Teachers College, now known as Winston-Salem State University. The Carver High School year book stated Mattie's ambition was to become a nurse and her motto was "Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret."  Mattie was indeed a giver to so many of her wisdom, her wonderful home cooked meals and many of the treasures that she was blessed to have.

Shortly after enrolling in college, Mattie met the love of her life Sampson McMillan and the two were married. Mattie worked for Goodwill Industries, Forsyth Industrial Services and retired from Winston-Salem Dental Care.

Mattie was a devoted, committed Christian, and joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in November 2010 and was serving on the Mother's Board at the time of her death.  She previously was a member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Choir, a member of the missionary circle and became one of the first lady members of the Deacon Board.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Sampson, Mattie was preceded in death by three sisters, Maggie Bea Lincoln, Bettye Jean Lincoln Williams and Rosa Mae Lincoln Thompson; and her son, Reynard Ervin McMillan.

Mattie leaves to forever cherish her loving memories, her son, Tonnie McMillan; daughters,   Deborah (Carl) McMillan Jones, and Gwenetta (Kenneth) McMillan Blane of Greensboro; five grandsons, Malcolm Jones of Seattle, WA, Marcus (Michelle) Jones of Charlotte, Myrion Jones (Shakeria McIntosh),  Kedrick Easter (Ashley Richardson), and Keenan Easter of Columbia, MD; one granddaughter, Reynita (Rodney) McMillan Blake; three great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley (Aaron) Hall and Earline Harry; a sister/niece, Gloria (Arthur, Sr.) Hunder; several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, bonus family, James and Brenda Diggs; and a host of friends.

Mattie was one of God's beautiful flowers that graced our lives with her love and presence. She was a dainty, gracious lady who loved to work outside beautifying her yard with beautiful flowers.  Mattie enjoyed cooking delicious meals and serving those meals to others.  She had a love for her God and her family.  To quote Mattie, "she desired that every one be on straight street" with their lives devoted to God.

There will be no public viewing.
