Obituary

Mattie Lee Jackson, 71 years old, of 1635 E. 5 th Street – Somerset Court at University Place, Winston-Salem, NC departed this life on March 23, 2017. She was born on November 18, 1945 in Darlington, SC to the late Bell Jackson and Carl Young.  She attended Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools.

Ms. Jackson was a faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church until her health declined. She was one of the charter members who started the nurse's board ministry in 2005. Ms. Jackson was also committed in attending Sunday School on a regular basis. After morning service, Ms. Jackson would always make sure that the sanctuary was cleaned and tidy and everything put back in place. She loved her church family and it always showed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Andrew and Lydia Jackson; three brothers, Robert Lee (Mickey) Jackson, Andrew Jackson and Charles Jackson; and two sisters Fannie Mae Bradley and Jeanette Ellerbe.

She leaves to cherish her memories her life-time partner, John Tribble; a daughter, Lisa Jackson of Atlanta GA; a son, Chris Jackson (Robin) of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Tatum A. Miller of Atlanta GA, Kiana Austin of Charlotte, NC and Tiara McGee of Rienzi, MS.; sisters, Careen Williams and Lydia Jane Jackson, both of Winston- Salem, NC, Janie Bulls of Brooklyn, NY; brother Toy (Joyce) Jackson of Walkertown, N.C. Devoted Nephews, Keith Jackson and Donielle Ellerbe; devoted cousin, Jimmie F. Jackson of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins  and many friends; family pet "Mei'ko".

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:oo pm Monday, March 27, 2017 at New Zion Baptist Church 158 N. Highland Ave, Winston-Salem, N.C. with Pastor Vernon E. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery.  The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Monday at the Church.

Funeral procession will leave from the home of her sister, Careen Williams of 5100 Hunt Park Court, Winston-Salem, NC.

A special "Thanks" to the staff at Somerset Court, Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Palliative Care Center and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
