Matthew "Little Tessie" Banner, 73 of 107 Oakwood Drive passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center. He was born August 8, 1937 in Forsyth County to the late Eugene and Thelma Banner. He attended Carver School, was a graduate of South Carolina State University, and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He retired from the City of Winston-Salem.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Rosa Banner; his mother and father; three sisters, Irene Banner McCall, Myrtle Nellie Coad, and Ruth Andrews; and three brothers, Eugene, Marvin, and Bernard.
He leaves to cherish his memories his son, Reginald R. Connors; a brother, Raymond O. Banner, Sr. (Teresa) of Winston-Salem, NC; a very devoted nephew, Jashaun Thomas; a devoted cousin, Nelson Petree; devoted friends, Barbara Parker (Thomas) of Yadkinville, NC, and Rufus Smith of Winston-Salem, NC; one grandchild, Reginald G. Robert of Winston-Salem, NC; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, September 17, 2010 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church NC with Raymond O. Banner, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Yadkinville, NC. The family will receive friends from 11am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence of Raymond O. Banner, Sr., 1606 Sprague Street at 10am on Friday morning, September 17, 2010 in route to the Church.
