Today we celebrate the life of Mrs. Mary Jones Springs. She was born in Winston-Salem, NC on February 2, 1943, to the late Christine Jackson and Haywood Johnson.
The Lord called her home on December 12, 2024.
Mrs. Springs attended the Forsyth County schools and then married the love of her life, Harold L. Springs, Sr. on October 14, 1961. They would go on to share 63 years united as one. Mrs. Springs held many titles including Ma, Grandma, Confidant, Counselor, Teacher, Doctor, Nurse, Chauffeur, Cheerleader, Prayer Warrior, Spiritual Advisor, and the list goes on and on. Though you won't find her name on the rolls of any college or university, through her children and grandchildren she burned the midnight oil many, many nights with us, answering questions, helping us write papers and praying us through the tough times. So, for these reasons, she completed requirements for graduation from Winston-Salem State, North Carolina A&T, Forsyth Tech, Fayetteville State, California State, University of Virginia, Liberty University, University of Phoenix, Strayer University, Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and the Greensboro Police Academy.
If you knew her, you know that family was her number one priority. She was exceptionally good at taking care of her family. She was a member of Gethsemane Hope Missionary Baptist Church for over 28 years. Her involvement in our church included: Assistant Superintendent of our Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, Financial Secretary and Treasurer, President of the Senior Choir, Member of Women's Fellowship and a Deaconess of the Church, until her health declined.
In addition to God and family, Mrs. Springs loved dogs, tropical fish, feeding the birds in her yard, gardening, fast cars, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Mrs. Springs was preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, Mrs. Willie J. Bennett; and her brothers, John N. Jones, and George H. Johnson. She is survived by her husband; her children, Carmen D. Springs, Harold L. Springs, Jr. (Lori), and Keith D. Springs, Sr. (Brenda); sisters, Audrey J. Davis (Melvin), and Sharon J. Buford; a devoted sister-in-law, Rosalene J. Green; grandchildren, Keisha D. Springs, Harold L. Springs, III (Michelle), Keith D. Springs, Jr. (Ramsey), Steven L. Archie, Terrance G. Springs (Kim), Erika Davis (Brian), Ebony Springs, Icesis Mayo, and Aajha Ferrell; 10 great grandchildren; a special caregiver, Ms. Brenda Rogers; extended family, Scott Richardson, Libby Johnson (Christian), Susan Richardson and George Richardson (Laurie); a host of nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.
