Obituary

Mary Ruby Sadler was born to Alexander and Alma Armstrong Sanders October 3, 1918 in Spartanburg, SC. She departed this earthly life April 1, 2014.

She attended Clover High School before going to The Methodist Finishing School in Columbia, SC. She was a talented vocalist and pianist and was often requested to sing and play the piano at local churches.

In 1935 she met and married the love of her life, Cornelius Sadler, Sr. From this union a son, Cornelius Sadler, Jr. was born. The family moved to Beacon, NY where she was an avid community worker and church member. She held several positions at St. James AME Zion church including choir member, secretary and trustee. Mrs. Sadler had a passion for uplifting young girls in the community and served as Girl Scout Leader and mentor for African- American girls in the community.

She was a founder of the Le Soeurs Amiable Civic Club and an active member for over sixty years. Mrs. Sadler was also a life member of Twilight Chapter 28 Prince Hall Order of Eastern Star Beacon, NY. She was a member of the Empire State Federation of Women's Clubs, Inc. and The National Association of Colored Women's Clubs, Inc. She relocated to Winston-Salem, NC in 2006 to be with her family.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; husband; and grandson, Barry Sadler.

She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Cornelius (Ollie Patricia) Sadler; three grandchildren, Duane Sadler, Nina Howard (Theodore), and Dereck Sadler (Terhas); seven great-grandchildren, Dereck Sadler, Jr., Barry Sadler, Jabari Sadler, Theodore Howard, Syrus Sadler, Zen Sadler and Ashley Sadler; one great-great granddaughter, Saniyah Sadler; a granddaughter-in-law, Diane Sadler; a sister-in-law, Queen Ester McCleod; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 3:30pm Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Mendez officiating. The family visitation will be held from 3pm until 3:30pm on Saturday at the Church.
