Mary Marie Payne Jones went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care in W-S, NC. She was born February 12, 1936 the eldest of eleven children to David and Katie Payne.

In 1953 she graduated Salutatorian of the Saint Anne's Academy in W-S, NC. She accepted a scholarship to attend St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN as a Biology and Chemistry major. She later transferred to Winston-Salem State University, formerly Winston-Salem Teachers College.

In 1956 she married Milton Jones, her devoted husband of over 56 years. The family relocated to Newark, NJ and later to Philadelphia, PA. After 20 years of service with the Social Security Administration she retired and returned home to W-S, NC.

While living in Philadelphia, PA she was a member of Greater Mt .Vernon Baptist Church. From childhood she attended and maintained her membership at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She was the matriarch of the Payne Family. She was also a member of the S and K Classic Ladies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Katie Payne; three brothers, David Duncan, Sr., Ronald Payne, and Thomas Leroy Payne; and two sisters, Rosalyn Payne and Sharon Coggins.

She leaves to cherish loving memories her husband, Milton Jones; daughters, Carmen (John) Spruill, Marcia (Reginald) Walton-Chappell of Chase, MD, and Sheryl (Calvin) Adams; one son, Roderick Jones of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Chavora Jones, Dequan (Charie) Jones, Reginald Jones, Steven (Erica) Lowery, Scherrie Lowery, Lakesha (Anthony) Brunson, Raheen Lathan of Philadelphia, PA, and Olivia Montey; 11 great-grandchildren, Nigel Jones, Cyannah Lowery, Jaylon Jeffreys, Makye Hayes, Jordan Brunson, Jiah Jones, Cydney Lowery, Anthony Brunson, Jr., Jahrian Jeffreys, Steven Lowery, Jr., and Kaylin Jones; four sisters, Lillian Banner, Jacqueline (Willie) Brooks, Sophia (Thomas) Payne-Drake, and Katrina Payne; one brother, Karl (Bobbietta) Payne; one devoted sister-in-law, Ida Duncan; sisters-in-law, Shirlene Montey of Philadelphia, PA and Vivian Payne; devoted daughter-in-law, Denise Jones; God-daughter, Rosalyn Josey; one devoted niece, Debra Mack; nephew, RaaShaun "Bam" Payne; special life-long friend, Belvia Jean (Moon) Caldwell of Newark, NJ; one devoted friend, Delores Thomas of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Thursday at the Church.
