Mary Ann Anderson McCormick of 3611 Shaw Rd., 71, departed this earthly life Wednesday afternoon, July 19, 2017. She was born October 22, 1945 to Mary Emma Weeks Anderson and David Lee Anderson, Sr. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by three of her siblings, David Lee Anderson, Jr., Walter Leon Anderson and Shirley Ann Fair.
Mary is a 1964 graduate of Anderson High School. She is a former employee of Western Electric and Arbor Acres. She was a long-standing member of The Fellowship Church, formerly known as Uncompromising Word Fellowship, where she served as a "Dove" missionary. Mary Ann Anderson McCormick enjoyed singing and was such a dynamic singer that she was offered a scholarship to sing by Livingstone College in Salisbury. She believed in worshipping and praising God for all His blessings. Mary was a homemaker, caring for her husband with diligence. She was a mother and our superhero as her son often reminded everyone. Mary was a God-fearing woman who was gentle, kind, loving, compassionate, classy, giving, sweet and quiet, but she was a powerhouse in her faith walk. She believed in living a life that was worthy to be called one of God's children. Mary was always doing for others even if it presented a challenge for her small stature. Her love of cooking and hosting the traditional family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas, which were priceless and open to anyone who didn't have somewhere to go, kept the family foundation firm. She truly believed prayer is the key and faith unlocks the door. Her warm spirit was an embodiment of the love of Jesus that was spread abroad. Mary believed Jesus' words in John 9:4, "As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work." And because of her belief in the word of God she was on the battlefield working for the Lord on Sunday, where she spent her last moments of agility interceding on behalf of someone else. On Wednesday, July 19, 2017, our sweet angel was ushered unexpectedly into eternal rest from her labors.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband of the home, Willie McCormick, Jr.; four children, Maria Petree of Charlotte and her fiancé Ragnar Padmore, Rev. Donna Maree of Winston-Salem, Melinda Mouzzon of Raleigh (Lawrence), and Teddy Westley Petree, Jr. of Winston-Salem (Heather) from a previous marriage with Teddy Westley Petree, Sr.; one brother, Eugene Weeks (Wilma) of Raleigh; sisters, Bedelia Saunders (Albert) of Winston-Salem, Ollavee Mann of Kernersville, Elizabeth Browne of Salisbury, Francine Ruth of Greensboro, and Mildred Chinaka of Salisbury; nine grandchildren, Teddy Westley Petree, II (Natia), Mikisha Petree, Terrence Petree, Sr. (Mae), Maribella Maree, Emmanuel Maree, Ezekiel Petree, Lavonte Mouzzon, Melicia Mouzzon, and Tedrick Petree; six great-grandchildren, De'Ante Petree, Johnathan Petree, Zion Petree, Zion Cannon, Trinity Petree, and Terrence Petree, Jr.; nieces, nephews and two living cousins, Elnora Fuller and Howard Shaw; and she was also blessed to have a special son and daughter, Anthony and Leslie Kinard; along with Trey Kinard and Jaylen Kinard, who are her Godsons.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at The Fellowship Church, 2800 E. Sprague Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 with Pastor Anthony Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 pm.
