Mary McCorkle has gone home on the wings of angels to walk with her Savior on October 11, 2009. She was born September 12, 1943 to Carrie Luckey and Edward Brown.
Mary graduated from Atkins Senior High School, McLean Business College, and was a retiree of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
She was a member of Phillips Chapel Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Senior Choir, Usher Board, Gospel Choir, and a member of the Culinary Staff.
Mary was the matriarch of her family and everyone that she knew; she always gave her love, wisdom, and direction. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and one brother.
Mary leaves to cherish her loving memories a daughter, Belinda; one granddaughter, Shatarra Lowery whom she loved dearly; sisters, Annie Mae (Adelaida) Mills of Bridgeport, CT, Iona (Larry) Jeter, Louise Spease, Gradaly Sykes, Doris Jones, Deloris (Tremas) Stephens, and Jarnett Sykes; six brothers, Jimmie Lee (Gloria) Luckey of Bridgeport, CT, William (Jessie) Brown of Milwaukee, Golden Luckey, Odell Luckey, Richard Brown, and Charles Sykes of Winston-Salem, NC; a loving and caring God-mother whom she loved dearly, Dorothy Sykes; and a host of nieces nephews other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, October 17, 2009 from the Phillips Chapel Baptist Church 132 N. Glenn Avenue with Reverend Chad Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Saturday at the Church. The funeral procession will assemble and leave from 119 Hemingway Street W-S, NC 27127.
The McCorkle Family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Oncology Cancer Center at WFU/Baptist Medical Center for their prayers, support, and loving care during her battle with leukemia. Also two caring doctors: B. Powers and G. Fromsome; Reverend Chad Armstrong and Phillips Chapel Church Family.
We all loved her, but God loved her more.
