Obituary

Mrs. Mary Malzina Scales Hairston, 75, of 3774 Watkins Street Walkertown, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
She was born in Stokes County on April 29, 1936 to Lee Ambus and Beulah Hauser Scales. She attended the local schools and graduated from Carver High School. She married the love of her life, Billy on July 13, 1956. This union was blessed with four daughters, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Mary was employed by and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company of Winston-Salem.
She was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended and served until her health began to fail. She was a member of the Mary Dudley Women's Progressive Auxiliary, and was Chairperson of the Social Committee for several years, where she did what she loved to do best, "COOK"!
She was preceded in death by her parents; 16 siblings, Pauline, Virginia, Leander, Lorene, Lucille, Sally, Lula Mae, Earnest, Walter, Nelson, Luther, William, James, Bobby, James, and Frances; and one son-in-law, Donnie Murray.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her devoted and loving husband, Billy of the home; four daughters, Billie D. Murray, Tangelia (Ray) Rose, Jane Percival, and Mary (Jimmy) Scott all of Walkertown, NC; ten grandchildren, Albert Richard Redd, III, Juneaice Nichole (Mitchell) Neely, Ray Artez Rose, Phylicia Juneaice Rose, Tiffany Ann Murray, Natasha Shenea Murray, Sharde Tanicia Scott, Tianna Malzina Percival, Cavaggio Lamar Percival and Lewis Billy Henri Percival; two great-grandsons, Albert Redd, IV and Mekhi Barr; she was eagerly awaiting the birth of her newest great-grandson, James Scurlock, Jr.; one sister, Ella Fulp of Walkertown, NC; nine sisters-in-law, Margaret Scales, Faye Scales, Ana Horton, Helen Horton, Ollie Mays, Doretha Lyons, Clara (Willie) Pinkney, Doris (Freemon) Roebuck, and Janet (Isaiah) Timberlake; one brother-in-law, Michael Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend I.L. Anthony officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
