Obituary

Mrs. Mary Lou Brown, daughter of William and Marie Purvis McDonald, Sr. was born September 10, 1942 in Bennettsville, SC. She was called to her eternal home on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Mary was educated in the Malboro County Schools. She was a former member of St. Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Bennettsville, SC. In her early adulthood, she moved to Winston-Salem, NC and united with Shiloh Baptist Church, and faithfully served on the Usher, Nurses, and Sheepfold Ministries, Elvira Lanier Chorus and Chancel Choir. She was a member of Magnolia Chapter #168.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Michael and Ulysees McDonald; and a sister, Bertha Covington.

She is survived by her children, Angela (Alan), Mary, Randy (Karla) Brown, Dwayne, Velvet, and Jason Brown; two brothers, Cornell (Newatha) of Cheraw , SC and William (Rosa Lee) McDonald, Jr.; five sisters, Willie Burke (James) Burroughs of Florence, SC, Lassie Ghana of Sumter, SC, Deloris (Frank) Smith, Betty David, and Mary E. Brown all of Bennettsville, SC; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Jasper Gray; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, February 9, 2008 from the Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from Noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
