On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, Mary Emma Littlejohn ended her earthy journey as she was called to her heavenly home. Mary was born on August 30, 1931 in Chester, South Carolina to the late Torrence and Ella Mae Gore. Mary moved to New York City at an early age and was educated throughout the New York City Public School System.
Mary was joined in a blessed union to Ben P. Littlejohn. From this union, two daughters were born, Cheryl and Kim. Mary, with Ben, instilled a strong work ethic and the value of family and friends that has extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After 26 years of dedicated service to the United States Postal Service as a Training Technician, Mary retired and moved to Winston-Salem, NC. After relocating, Mary, along with her husband, joined Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served on several auxiliary committees. At a young age, Mary accepted the Lord as her Savior and served him enthusiastically. As her health declined, Mary's love for her church family brought a sense of peace and joy that resonated in her smile. You would often hear her humming "Amazing Grace" and requesting it be sung to her. Amazing grace how sweet the sound. She always found comfort in those words as they enveloped her like a warm blanket.
Mary will be best remembered for the charismatic personality who loved to dance and genuinely enjoyed spending time talking friends and strangers alike. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Littlejohn and son, George "Randy" Holt.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Cheryl (Thomas) Orr and Kim Littlejohn; three grandchildren, Natoya (Brandon), Daniel (Rayna), and Jasmine; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Jr. and Kamryn; a sister-in-law, Marie Littlejohn; a special niece, Roxanne Tucker; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A public viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.
Homegoing services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, April 4, 2022 at Shiloh Baptist Church. Family visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30pm until 2:00pm.
