Mother Mary Magdalene Ledbetter Smith passed away on March 21, 2012 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A woman of great Faith, she was a devout, lifetime member of The Macedonia Worship Center, the headquarters of The True Vine Churches of Deliverance International. There she served in her younger years as the Radio Announcer for the Sunday Broadcast, and the Secretary General; later, as National Youth President; and more recently, as The International Mother of the Church.
Her education started at Midway Elementary School, through Columbia Heights Junior High School. She graduated from Atkins High School. Several years later, after marriage and having children, she attended Winston-Salem Teachers College (Winston-Salem State University). She continued her education throughout her life, acquiring a Master's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Theology.
Mother Smith had a passion for Education, loved working with young children, began teaching Pre-K students in 1965, and retired from the same field in 2010. She was an accomplished elementary school teacher in the Lynchburg, VA Public School System for forty-seven years. Several times throughout her career she was acknowledged by news articles for her fortitude and inspiration to young people.
The daughter of Cranford and Nellie Shore, Mother Smith was born in Wadesboro, NC on June 22, 1932. She was preceded in passing by both parents, and is survived by her four children from her marriage to William T. Smith. Her children are Mr. and Mrs. William T. Smith, Jr. of Bowie, MD; Mr. Reginald B. Smith of Las Vegas, NV; Dr. Yolanda E. Smith of Boynton Beach, FL; and Mrs. Veta L. Jones of Misawa, Japan; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many loved relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 6pm Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Macedonia Worship Center, 500 Kinard Drive W-S, NC with Apostle S.D. Johnson officiating. The viewing will be held from 5pm until 6pm on Wednesday at the Church. Interment will be held at 11am Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Evergreen Cemetery.
She touched many hearts with her strength, will, courage and profound Belief in God. Although we are saddened about our loss on this earth, we MUST take this time to celebrate her "Home-Going." This is what she wanted - not tears, but joyous celebration.
