Mary Beatrice Johnson "Cherry", a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, was born on August 24, 1952. She departed this world on May 28, 2020 after a short stay at Hospice.
A graduate of Central High School, Mary's diligent work ethic was demonstrated throughout various jobs maintained at several establishments. Before retiring in 2007 due to health issues, Mary worked for over a decade at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital's cafeteria.
Outgoing yet outspoken, Mary had an effervescent personality – a true zest for living. Others were drawn by this energy towards the candor and warmth of her essence. Mary's love for life was only surpassed by her love for family – a constant in tranquil and torrid times alike. Firmly rooted but itinerant in spirit, Mary remained in constant motion throughout all of her days.
She is survived by her mother, Betty Johnson; sister, Sandra Hood; brother, P.C. Johnson; nephew, Jonathan Hood; and brother-in-law, Everett Hood.
A private graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery.
