Mary Elizabeth Moore Jackson was born January 6, 1951 to the loving parents, George Lee, Sr. and Erma Marie Moore. She was next to the youngest of six siblings. She was a member of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church of Elizabeth City, NC. At the early age of eleven she accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized. Mary worked in the church prior to becoming saved. She sang on the junior choir, went to Sunday school regularly, attended VBS every year, and attended bible study on Wednesday nights. As a young adult, Mary became superintendent of the Sunday school and was a member of the Celestial Chorus. After high school graduation, Mary went to school in Charlotte, NC where she met her future husband, Willie James Jackson, Sr. They moved to Winston-Salem, NC and their union produced one child, Willie James Jackson, Jr.
Mary became a member of First Calvary Baptist Church where she served on the choir and the deaconess board where she remained faithful until her illness no longer allowed her to serve.
Mary was called home to be with the Lord on January 25, 2019.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bill, Jr.; and three sisters, Pam Moore, Jean Bunch, and Pastor Georgia Labrendel Butts.
Mary is survived by her husband of 48 years, Willie James Jackson, Sr.; granddaughter, Sa'Kara Jackson; two brothers, George Lee Moore, Jr. and Dr. Samuel C. Moore; three sisters-in-law, Mary Reed, Priscilla (Vernon) Cloud, and Zelma (Daniel) Wolfe; brother-in-law, Aubrery Jackson, Jr.; Godson, Tavest Rucker; and various nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Thursday, January 31, 2019 at First Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Carlton Eversley officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Thursday at the Church.
