Mrs. Mary Lee Garris Compton departed this life on Sunday, September 9, 2007 in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born on August 9, 1925 to Joseph Nelson Garris and Gertrude McFadden Garris. She was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Holiness Church.

In addition to the parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elder James Edward Compton; her two brothers, Joseph Garris, Jr. and Edlee Garris; three brothers-in-law, Elsie Williams, Alfred Johnson and Albert B. Samuel, Sr.

She is survived by three sisters, Rosa Johnson, Josephine Samuel and Essie Williams and one brother, Samuel Garris; two sisters-in-law, Linda Williams (Jesse) and Josephine Raphael of Greensboro, NC and a devoted caregiver, Evangelist Katherine Tapp and daughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing services will be held at 12:30 pm Friday, September 14, 2007 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Wardlow Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from noon until 12:30 on Friday at the Chapel.
