Obituary for Mary Elizabeth "Libbie" Culp Miller

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth "Libbie" Culp Miller, beloved wife, mother, aunt, and friend. Born on December 24, 1951, in South Carolina to Ellie and Viola Culp, Libbie passed away on February 7, 2025 at the age of 73.

Libbie began her life in South Carolina, and later moved to Winston-Salem, NC, where she worked at Bell South and supported her husband, Taylor Miller Jr., during his career at RJ Reynolds. In 1994, Libbie moved to Danville, California with her sister, Shirley and brother-in-law, David Jones, where she found her passion in caring for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Under Shirley's guidance, Libbie learned the business and opened her own residential care facility, Libbie's Care Home 1 and 2, in Pleasanton, California in 2003. Her homes were the only female African-American-owned care homes in the area and earned praise from the Regional Center of the East Bay.

Libbie's life was defined by her selflessness, love for others, and dedication to her work. She was a devoted wife to Taylor, a loving sister to Shirley, and a proud aunt. Libbie's kindness and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Taylor Miller, Jr.; sisters, Pansy and Dr. Geneva Culp Roberts; and brothers, James (Rick) Richard Culp, Waddell Culp, Charles Culp and David Jones.

Libbie is survived by her sisters, Betty "Boot" Curry, Shirley Jones, Eris Culp; brother, Ellie Culp, Jr.; her nieces and nephew,  Shica Knox, Robin LouAllen, Chalvalier McCullough, Nussan Olrun and her two children, Nussaalar Olrun and Ronnie Westry, III;  and friends, Ula, BB, and Hezy.

A private celebration of Libbie's life will be held at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery. Her spirit and the love she shared will continue to inspire those who knew her.

Rest in peace, Libbie. You will never be forgotten.
