Ms. Mary Lee Carter, 84, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on May 12, 1927 in Advance, NC to the late Red Carter and Maggie M. Carter McCain.
Mary was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System and graduated from Atkins High School. She furthered her education at Winston-Salem Teachers College.
Mary was a long time employee for Frank Murrell Construction Company, Wachovia Bank, Inc. and retired from the United Postal Service.
Mary was a long time faithful member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church, where she served on the Women's Home and Oversees Missionary Society. She was a former member of the Stewart Board, Class Leaders, Lay Council and the Noon Day Prayer Services.
She was a member of the Meridian Chapter #308, Order of the Eastern Stars.
Everlasting memories will be cherished by her devoted children, Michael O. Brown, M.D., Carol (Eddie) Simmons, Melanie (Michael) Gilliam, Kenneth W. Carter, and Prentice K. Carter; five grandchildren, Charles, Carera, Maryel Simmons, Michael Tanner, and Victor Brown; two sisters, Lenior Juanita Carter and Linda McCain Anderson; nine nieces; one nephew; one great niece; four great nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, September 19, 2011 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Monday at the Church.
