Mary Louise Caldwell Bivins was born on September 28, 1932 as the fourth child of the late James and Corrine Caldwell of Saint Matthews, South Carolina. She was the loving mother of Toni Marie Henry and Sammie Lee Bivins Jr. She quietly went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 16, 2010.
Mary's family relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she was born and raised. She married the late Sammie L. Bivins, Sr.
Mary received her formal education in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. She later attended and graduated from Stars Stenographic School of Business in 1963.
She started her career as a cafeteria worker in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. Mary later went to work for Western Electric (AT&T) and retired form there in 1989.
Mary was a former member of New Bethel Baptist Church. She remained there for many years and raised her children to serve and honor our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mary loved cooking and serving others. She can be remembered as one of the world's greatest cooks! Among her other joys of life was her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, James Caldwell, Jr.; and a sister, Pauline McCurry.
Mary is survived by her loving and devoted children Toni M. Caldwell Henry and Sammie Lee (Marie) Bivins; three loving grandchildren, Christopher Bradley Bowman, Samantha Marie Bivins, and Senora Leigh Bivins, all of Winston-Salem, NC; a beloved sister Idella Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Noon Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James Clyburn, Sr. officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11am until Noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
