Marvin Shaw Jr., 73, departed this life on August 13, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 14, 1942 in Sumter, SC to Marvin Shaw, Sr. and Geneva Smith Tyler. He was a graduate of Atkins High School and he attended NC A&T. Baseball was a major part of Marvin's life. He played for the Pond Giants of WS and the Boston Red Sox, and he retired from RJR Tobacco Co.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Shaw Sr.; brother, Alfred Shaw; and great-grandson, Jayden Harris.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving mother, Geneva Smith Tyler; daughters, Shawlene (David), Syteria (Jermaine), and Charisse; sons, Chris and James; grandchildren, Christopher, Christian, Cherrissa, Channon, Shatrice, Maurice, and Marcuz; a host of great-grandchildren; brother, Gregory (Dianne) Shaw; sisters, Priscilla Kinard, Gail Jones, and Carolyn Williams; aunt, Eatha McTillman; and a host of nieces, nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Tuesday at the Chapel.
