Mr. Martinez "Pete" Carlos Smith passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024, at his home. Pete was born on September 19, 1955, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to the late Forrest and Francina Smith. He completed his education at a high school in the Forsyth County school system and later worked as a janitor in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools.

Pete loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed watching soap operas, and his favorite one was Young and the Restless. Pete was always ready to help others and had a kind and generous heart. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest R. Smith and Francina Z. Smith; as well as his sisters, Meta Carolyn Gwyn, Jacqueline "Jackie" Sullivan, Eleanor Gail Hines, and Melanie "Lanie" Bush. He is survived by his sister, LaVonne Smith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A public viewing of Martinez Carlos Smith will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home. The Homegoing Service will be held at 11:00am Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Marie McGhee officiating. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:00am on Thursday at the Chapel.
