God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed those loving eyes and whispered "Peace Be Thine."
Marthaniel Linton was born to Samuel and Rosalee Linton on May 8, 1922 in Anderson, South Carolina. The sub bowed its head as the moon gave us its peaceful rays. Family and friends bow in humble submission to the will of God as he transitioned to his heavenly home on July 17, 2015.
At an early age, Marthaniel accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Growing up in a church environment afforded him the spiritual opportunity to participate in numerous church activities and events. He loved his church family and served faithfully on many auxiliaries, boards, committees, civic and community organizations. He was very active in the Meals on Wheels program in Forsyth County.
Marthaniel was educated in the public school system in Winston-Salem, NC and continued his formal advanced education at Forsyth Technical Community College. He built a lucrative business known to all throughout the Carolina's and the State of Virginia as Linton's Cleaners, a prestigious African-American business owned and operated by an African-American. He was a former member of the James H. Young Memorial Lodge No.670 and Sethos Temple No. 170.
He was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Margaret C. Linton, a union that remained inseparable and strong for 65 years. There were no children born to this union.
The memories of "Uncle Mop" will forever be cherished by his nieces, Rosetta Linton (Willie) Glover of Hillsborough, NC, Martha Linton (Johnny) Legrand of Salisbury, NC, Maria Linton Perkins of Smithfield, VA, Rose Marie Linton Hasell of Queens Village, NY, and Marjorie Linton Conway; nephew, Elmo Linton, Jr. (Regina) of W-S, NC; great-nieces, Darlene Glover, Gretta Legrand, and Ionna Legrand; great-nephews, Vinson Perkins, Isaiah Legrand, Alexander Linton, and Edward Glover, Jr.; and a host of extended family and friends.
He stepped on the shore and found heaven, took hold of a hand and found it to be God's hand, breathed new air and found it celestial. He passed from life to an unbroken chain and now has awakened in the arms of Jesus Christ in his eternal home. To God be the Glory!
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with Reverend Johnny Ruff officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
