Obituary

Mrs. Martha H. Rorie was born January 20, 1937 in York County, Rock Hill, SC to the late Brown and Ethel Lee Cunningham Dease. She departed this life on February 27, 2014 in Winston-Salem, NC. A graduate of NC Central University in Durham, NC and an intern at Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem NC, she became a registered nurse. For more than two decades, she worked in various divisions of Reynolds Memorial Hospital, including the Emergency Room and the Operating Room.



Martha married the late James W. Rorie, and from this union of nearly 40 years, bore three children, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.



Martha was a member of First Baptist Church on Highland Avenue, where she was married by the late Reverend Dr. David R. Hedgley and served as a member of the senior choir and usher board.



As a dedicated family member and friend, Martha leaves to cherish her memory her twin sister Mary H. Garrett of Low Gap, NC; three children, J. Wayne (Harolyn) Rorie and Kashemi D. Rorie of Winston-Salem, NC, and Okanecia L. Rorie of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Jha'ke Rorie, Da'Shuan Rorie, Brent Rorie, and Cameron Rorie of Winston-Salem, NC and Chance Rorie of Salisbury, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan, Thailyn, Miliani, Brent, Jr., Cameron, Jr., Kamauri, and Kemani of Winston-Salem, NC; two nephews, James (Seneca) Garrett, III of Atlanta, GA and Charles (Ann) Garrett of Whiteville, NC; one niece, Wanda (James) Peck of Winston-Salem, NC; two great-nieces, Laticia (Karl) Adams of Atlanta, GA and Natasha Peck of Baltimore, MD; two great-nephews, James Garrett, IV of Washington, DC and Samuel Garrett of Whiteville, NC; one great-great nephew, Garrett Adams of Atlanta, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends.



Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11am on Saturday at the Chapel.
