Mr. Marquis L. McMahan, Sr., 46, passed away April 11, 2022. He was born October 17, 1975 in Winston-Salem, NC to Michael "Mike" Levon McClinton and the late Carlene Diane McMahan.
He attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Reynolds High School in June 1994. Marquis, with his charming smile, was affectionately known by his family and friends as "Quis." His love for the game of football began at an early age. Marquis caught the first twinkle in his eye when he started with the Tiny Indians football team in the 1980's. His love for the sport grew even more throughout his high school years and it afforded him the opportunity to play as a Defensive Back on the college level at Mars Hill College. Everyone that encountered him, knew he was a serious Pittsburgh Steelers fan and Marquis made sure to instill the same love for "Black and Yellow," in all his kids.
More than playing football, Marquis had an avid love for family and never missed an opportunity to spend it with his kids and his grandmother, "Mommie." His dad was his absolute best friend, and they enjoyed many talks and life lessons along the way. He held close to the values of family, football, and good food. He loved to grill in his past time, awarding himself the nickname, "THE GRILLMASTER."
Marquis was employed by United Parcel Service (UPS) for 20 plus years until his untimely demise. He began working in the hub as a package sorter and when a dear friend retired, he only entrusted his route to Marquis. Marquis officially became a UPS driver in 2011 and in 2020 he serviced customers in the Walkertown area, until he passed.
On Monday, April 11, 2022, God saw fit to call Marquis home. Briefly before he transitioned, Marquis married the beautiful, Melissa West McMahan on February 24, 2022, after giving their lives to Christ. They spent the last few years taking beautiful family vacations and building lasting memories with their children, grandchildren, and loved ones alike.
In addition to his mom, Marquis was preceded in death by two great-grandmothers, Clara B. Miller and Harriet McMahan; maternal grandparents, Robert and Marceline B. Miller; and two aunts, Francine Smith and Crystal D. McMahan.
Marquis loved his children with his whole heart. His legacy lives on through four (4) sons, Marquis Lydell McMahan, Jr. of Hyattsville, MD, Mekhai Lydell McMahan, Isaiah Michael McMahan, and Myles Lydell McMahan all of Walkertown, NC; two beautiful daughters, Makenzie Lynn McMahan of Winston-Salem, NC, and Madison Carlene Marie McMahan of Walkertown, NC; a bonus son, Kimani Fezzan Muldovan of Walkertown, NC; a loving and supporting father, Michael "Mike" McClinton of Winston-Salem, NC; grandparents, Theodore and Mary "Mommie" Cain Shields of Winston-Salem, NC; three (3) devoted Godchildren, Kouri Peoples, Kennedi Walker, and Khristopher Walker all of Winston-Salem, NC. He also leaves to cherish his memories, a host of loving aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends. To know Marquis was to love him. He was a loyal friend and will truly be missed by his long and devoted friends of 30 plus years, Jodi Husel and Krisna Peoples-Walker.
