Evangelist Marlene Joyner, 66, of Winston-Salem, NC went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 14, 2009. She was born October 25, 1942 to the Reverend Alphonso and Essie Lee Joyner. Evangelist Joyner was a long time member or Shiloh Baptist Church.
She graduated from Atkins High School and furthered her education at Russell Business College receiving her degree in Business.
Evangelist Joyner played the piano in various churches around the city. She was a member of the James Cleveland Workshop of America, organized her own gospel group, and gave concerts throughout the state, a member of the Gospel Choir, The Women's Chorus, and The Ladies Aide No. 2 at Shiloh Baptist Church.
Evangelist Joyner is survived by her loving children, Alfonzo (Jan) Joyner II of Atlanta, GA, Charlene (Paul) Penn, Steven Lindsey, Jamie Joyner, all of Winston-Salem, NC. She is also survived by her aunt, Mae Alice Archia; grandchildren Demetria Stuart, Steven James Lindsay, Jr., Joshua Joyner, Jakema McDonald, Tieisha McDonald, Tikiya Price, Iris Matthews, and Jasmine Hodges.
Homegoing services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1 pm Wednesday at the church.
