IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn Lucette
Baldwin Springs
March 2, 2024
On Saturday March 2, 2024, Marilyn Lucette Baldwin Springs, was called home to be with the Lord. She was home with her Husband and a Nurse from Trellis Supportive Care, who said as she was coming up the drive to enter the house, she saw a Hawk come up from the East and one come around from the side of our house and they met in the front, then flew off to the East, which was a sign to her that Marilyn had transitioned, the time was 10:31 am, which was the time of her death.
Marilyn was born on June 4, 1947 at K. B. Reynolds Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC to Rufus McKinley Peoples and Catherine Baldwin.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; and four of her siblings.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Tommy; her children Tim Rhodes, Terri Dixon, Towannia Armstrong, Tommy Springs, Jr., and Dr. Sherry Springs; a host grand and great grandchildren; four sisters, Deboria May, Olivia May (Leroy), Janice Miller (Greg), and Emma Peoples; and two brothers, Abram Peoples, Jr. and Wallace C. Peoples (Elaine). My wife had over 50 best friends, who she loved dearly. I will only name three because she talked to them last, Gloria George, Vivian Reid, and Jeff Jackson, our neighbor; three cousins, Carolyn Diana Dixon, Gloria Pearce, and Carolyn Springs Broughton.
Marilyn graduated from Atkins High School, After graduation she worked at K.B. Reynolds Hospital, she didn't last long, because she didn't like needles. She also worked in retail at several stores. She learned what a good deal was. When we went shopping if she found a good deal on something, she would buy several items, everything from greeting cards, to socks, and shoes. If a birthday came up, she was ready. She was an activist; she was part of the boycott at Northside Shopping Centers Cafeteria shortly after the Greensboro Sit-In's where she met Evelyn Terry.
In 1984, she started to work at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service as a Program Assistant in the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, where she went on to win the Minnie Miller Brown Award in recognition of Exemplary Performance in teaching EFNEP Audiences and then the North Carolina Association of Extension Home Economists Par-Professional Award for Outstanding Service and Excellence.
Marilyn was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church , where she won the Miss Bethlehem Crown three years in a row for most money raised. She was a member of the Eastern Stars and Sisters of Bivouac Chapter # 530. She was also a member of the Order of the Golden Circle, and she was also a member of the Diamond Ear Ring Club.
