WINSTON-SALEM - "Well done my good and faithful servant…" On Monday, December 1, 2008 the Lord called one of his angels, Marie Antoinette Gregg home to be with him. She was 47. She was born August 9, 1961 in Valhalla, NY to Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gregg, Jr.
Raised in White Plains, NY she attended White Plains public schools and graduated from White Plains High School in 1979. She went on to attend C W Post College in Long Island, NY pursuant of a bachelor's degree which she earned at Winston-Salem State University in 2006 where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Since relocating to Winston-Salem in 1998 Marie worked for Wachovia Bank, and was later employed with Pepsi Bottling Group until her health declined in 2007. Marie was a faithful servant of God, and her devotion to him showed through the many works she performed in the community, and through the undying smile that she put in hearts of everyone she touched. She was a devoted member of First Waughtown Baptist Church. In the community she was a member of the YWCA group Sister, Speak!, a volunteer for Cancer Services Inc., and a member of the WSSU based group NASO. Even as her health declined she continued her ministry of sharing the devotional book "Our Daily Bread."
She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Lee Gregg; a brother, Dwight Gregg, Sr.; and sister, Gloria Gregg.
She leaves behind a mother, Ms. Mary Gregg; a brother and sister, Orland Hanes and Lealma Gregg; two nephews, Jai Hanes and Dwight Gregg, Jr.; three nieces, Shunta Hanes, Ericka Bennett, and Regina Mundy; two great nieces; and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am Friday, December 5, 2008 at First Waughtown Baptist with the Rev. Dennis Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be held from 11 am until 11:30 am Friday at the church.
