Marie Barksdale Gambrell, 86 of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on February 17, 2010 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born on September 16, 1923 to Sam and Katie Bell Barksdale in Clarksville VA. Marie, a homemaker, devoted her time to raising and caring for 14 children and many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sister Marie was a member of Dreamland Park Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastoralship of Ronald C. Fisher, Sr., in which she served her earlier years on the Spiritual Choir and later received the honor of church Mother.
Mother Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Allen Gambrell; and two sons, Joseph and Rueben.
Left to continue her legacy is David Barksdale, George Gambrell, Jr., Richard (Bernice) Gambrell, Betty (Sam) Canty, Carnell (Evelyn) Gambrell, Tommie Gambrell, Ola (Willie) Ashford, Roxie Gambrell Brantley, Robert (Shanika) Gambrell, Carolyn Gambrell Carver, Pauline (Robert) Dupont, and Helen (Ronald) Copeland; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, February 22, 2010 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop John Parks officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from Noon until 1pm on Monday at the Church.
