Marian Jean Scales Collins, known to family and friends as "Minnie", was born November 16, 1930 to the late Viola Mason Scales and Raymond Johnson. She departed this life Tuesday, August 14, 2012.
"Minnie" attended Atkins High School class of 1949 and graduated with a B.S. degree in Education from WSSU, formerly Winston-Salem Teachers College class of 1954. After teaching for a period of time, she decided to branch out into a different career and began employment at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. from which she retired after serving 27 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Lizzie Mason White; uncle, Robert White; one brother, Robert A. Scales; and one sister, Bernice S. (Sammuel) Kearse.
In 1959 she married Roosevelt Collins and from this union was born a daughter, Tammie Yvette Collins.
Besides her devoted daughter, she leaves to mourn one brother, Bernard Scales; one sister-in-law, Manderline W. Scales; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, August 17, 2012 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church with Pastor Donald Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Friday at the Church.
