The sun bowed its head as the moon gave us its peaceful rays. Her husband, family, and friends bow in humble submission to the will of God as she transitioned home on March 19, 2013. The journey of life of Margaret Cornelia Linton began July 31, 1920. She was born to Ellis and Dellamae Payne of Tobaccoville, NC. Margaret was educated in the public school system in Tobaccoville, NC. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, there she served faithfully in her home church.
She was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Marthaniel Linton, a union that remained solid and strong for 63 wonderful years. She relocated with her husband to Winston-Salem, NC and continued in her service to God by joining Goler Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. There, she served faithfully on the following boards and organizations: Deaconess Board, Home Mission, Women's Home and Overseas Mission Society, and Sunday School Class #3. Other affiliations include Order of the Eastern Star Sisters of James H. Young Memorial Chapter #592, Iota Pelatis Auxiliary of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., DT Margaret Linton received recognition award for her 30 years of service Sethos Court #105 the Daughters of ISIS, she was presented the Business Woman of the Year 1975 by Beta Alpha Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, and she was presented the life-time recognition award from the Linton's Family Reunion. This tender hearted woman used her gifts and talents to faithfully work with her husband to build the lucrative business known to all throughout the Carolina's and the State of Virginia as Linton's Cleaners, a prestigious African American business owned and operated by an African American.
Her memories will forever be cherished by her husband, Marthaniel Linton of the home; her beloved sister, Lillian Speas of Tobaccoville, NC; brother, Charlie Payne of Winston-Salem, NC; nieces, Rosetta Linton (Willie) Glover of Hillsborough, NC, Martha Linton (Johnny) Legrand of Salisbury, NC, and Maria Linton (George) Perkins of Smithfield, VA; nephew, Elmo Linton, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, March 25, 2013 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with Reverend Johnny Ruff officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Monday at the Church.
She stepped on the shore and found heaven, took hold of a hand and found it to be God's hand, breathed new air and found it celestial. She passed from life to an unbroken chain and now has awakened in the arms of Jesus Christ in her eternal home. To God be the Glory!
