Ms. Margaret Covington, daughter of the late Samuel Mack Thomas and Reverend Minnie Broadway Thomas, was born August 9, 1928 in Anson County, North Carolina. Margaret was one of thirteen children. All of her siblings preceded her in death.
Margaret, affectionately known as "Mork", was kind and sassy. In her youth, she attended the Fairview Church of God, Polkton (Burnsville Township), North Carolina. She attended the public schools of Anson County. After high school, she moved and spent more than 30 years in Washington, D.C. She gave birth to Regina, worked in hospitality and retail, and was an active member of her church. Margaret enjoyed cooking, laughing, playing games, and spending time enjoying her brothers, sisters and their families in the D.C. metropolitan area. Margaret returned to Wadesboro, North Carolina in the late 1980's to care for her elderly mother and an aging sister. She became an active member of Little Rock Tabernacle Holiness Church which her mother founded. In 1999, Margaret moved to Winston-Salem to be closer to her daughter and granddaughters. Spending time with family and keeping the family close was very important to Margaret. In addition to holidays, one of her most favorite occasions was getting together for the Kit and Sueanna Thomas Family Reunions which has been held for the last 39 years. Margaret last attended the Annual Reunion in August 2018 when her health began to decline. Margaret was the last living great-grandchild of Kit and Suenna Thomas. She departed this life on September 22, 2023 at Trinity Glen Rehab in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Margaret leaves to cherish her loving memory one daughter, Regina Mitchell (Charles Blackwell Jr.) of Winston Salem, NC; two granddaughters Kandy Adams (Carl) of Manassas, Virginia and Marcella Marshall of Winston Salem, NC; four great-grandchildren, Kennedy Adams, Carter Adams, Cynia Fulks, and Brandon Horne; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be deeply missed by the Kit Thomas family and friends, whose lives were richly blessed by her presence.
