Obituary

Margaret Miller Bailey, 98, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina entered eternal rest on Friday, October 23, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clamon Bailey, Sr.; her son, Reginald Earl Bailey; her mother, Sudie Miller Jones; and two great granddaughters, TaTanisha Jackson and Nevaeh Renee Smith.

Born on April 7, 1928, in Forsyth County, North Carolina, Margaret received her education in the Forsyth County School System. She accepted Christ at an early age and remained a devoted and faithful member of St. John’s Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

Margaret took great pride in her work as a dedicated domestic worker, traveling with the families she served throughout the Eastern United States and the Caribbean. Beyond her professional life, she found joy in cooking and baking and was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. She also maintained a keen interest in current events and politics, staying informed and engaged with the world around her throughout her life.

Her commitment to serving others extended beyond her work. Margaret faithfully volunteered at The Good Samaritan Soup Kitchen and generously supported charitable organizations, reflecting her spirit of service and concern for others.

Affectionately known as “Squirt” by her aunts and uncles in her younger years, Margaret was a force to be reckoned with—a spirited woman who knew what she wanted and was determined to get things done. Highly organized, strong-willed, and independent, she lived life on her own terms. Her distinctive personality, sharp mind, and unwavering determination left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Although Margaret was an only child, she became the matriarch of a large and loving extended family. Through her strength, love, and perseverance, she built a legacy that will continue for generations.

She leaves to cherish her memory; her devoted children, Deborah (LeRoy) Jamison of Randolph, New Jersey, Jerry George, Clamon Bailey, Jr., Pamela Bailey, and Phyllis Ridgill, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a devoted daughter-in-law and caregiver, Dreama Bailey; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren;12 great-great-grandchildren; first cousin and dear friend, Lillian Stinson; cherished friend, Margaret Mills; and a host of cousins and friends.

Margaret will forever be treasured in our hearts.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Margaret M. Bailey to St. Johns CME Church and Trellis Supportive Care.

There will be no public viewing at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Friday, October 30, 2026 at St. John CME Church. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation and public viewing will be held from 11:00am until 12:30pm on Friday at the Church.
