On Friday, June 13, 2014, Margaret Beatrice Vaughn Alexander was called to her heavenly home. Born October 28, 1919 she was the last living child of William and Mamie Vaughn, who preceded her in death.
A dedicated servant for the Lord, Margaret grew in her faith as a child at St. Paul Methodist. When her mother became the musician for Grace Presbyterian, she began attending and later joined. Throughout her life, Margaret served in numerous roles, including singing on the choir and teaching Sunday school. She worshiped regularly and diligently gave to missions until her health failed. In the presence of her family, she was bestowed an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women by her church in 2013.
She received her bachelor's from Winston Salem Teachers College and Master's from NC A&T State University. She taught 1st and 2nd grade in Statesville, NC for many years before ending her career as an educator in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School system after 36 years.
Although her desired goal to live until 100 was not reached, she had a rich and full life that kept God at its center for 94 wonderful years. She was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Cyrus (Cecelia); granddaughter, Margaret- Joi (Aldin); great-grandchildren, Cameron, Aniya, and Arie; nephews, William Bell (Judy) and Charles (Metter); great-nieces and nephews; along with a host of cousins including Camille and Daisy Roddy.
Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Friday, June 20, 2014 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 3901 Carver School Road with Rev. Toure Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church in her memory.
