Mamie Elizabeth Thomas Hunter was born June 10, 1944 in Iredell County, NC to Tom and Elizabeth Thomas.  She was the fourth child of five- 3 sisters and 1 brother.  She departed this earthly life on March 29, 2023.

She attended the Statesville City Schools and then in the early 70's s made her journey to Winston-Salem, NC.  She worked in the hotel industry until she became the executive housekeeper.  She worked for the Hilton Inn and the Hampton Inn for over 40 years.  Mamie was a member of Stokesdale Family Outreach Center under the leadership of Pastor James Jackson.

Left surviving is her husband of 47 years, Franklin D. Hunter of the home; her daughter, Julia P. Summers of Winston-Salem, NC; son, Ricky (Lateria) Leach of Statesville, NC; grandson, Jowan D. Hunter of Winston-Salem, NC; granddaughter, Shameka N. Jones of Charlotte, NC; three great-grandchildren, Jowan D. Hunter, Shaviea K. Smith, and Jayceon Hunter; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; a host of friends including two special friends, Harriet Jones and Helen Warren; in-laws, Vazela Hunter, Dennis and Brenda Hunter all of Wilson, NC, and Horrace and MoKona Hunter of Lady Smith, VA; and extended relatives.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Wednesday at the Chapel.
