Mr. Malven Johnson "Governor" departed this life on Friday, September 3, 2010.
He was born on September 28, 1937, the son of Louise Johnson Bivens and Robert Steele. Throughout his life he traveled to and lived in Washington, DC, Rhode Island, and returned home to Winston-Salem, NC.
He loved fishing, mechanic work, and fellowship with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Dan and Jessie Johnson; step- father, Robert Bivens; two aunts, Mable Minter and Danell Johnson; and three uncles, Isaiah Johnson, Hildred Spencer, and Thomas Minter.
He is survived by one aunt, Beatrice Johnson Spencer; a close cousin and caregiver, Wanda Johnson White; a cousin, Orlando (Edna) Johnson; and numerous other cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12Noon Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12Noon on Wednesday at the chapel.
