Obituary

Mae Belle Ridgill Eccles, daughter of the late Thomas Ridgill, Sr. and Cleophas Tindal Ridgill was born February 8, 1927 in Manning, South Carolina. She was one of eleven children. She received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from State High School in 1947.

She was joined in holy matrimony to Wille S. Eccles on December 6, 1953 and they resided in Winston Salem, NC where together they reared 1 son and 2 daughters. Mae Belle loved children, in general, and was a babysitter for many children over the years. They called her "Ma Eccles." In addition to providing meals and care, she taught them basic reading and writing skills in preparation for kindergarten. She was active in her community and was the treasurer for the Harrison Avenue Good Samaritan Club. She loved to cook and enjoyed baking cakes and pies for friends, neighbors and family. She was a member of Saints Home United Methodist church for most of her adult life where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Secretary of the Sunday School, Chairperson of the Alter Guild, and member of the Yokefellow Prison Ministry.  She also sang in the Sanctuary Choir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Willie S. Eccles; two sisters, Earline Ridgill and Verdia Tindal; and six brothers, Nelson Ridgill, Sr., Robert Ridgill, Albertus Ridgill, Oliver Ridgill, Lonearl Ridgill, and Thomas Ridgill, Jr.
Mae Belle, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and sister-in-law, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2020 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Kevin S. (Kim) Eccles of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Kira Renae Eccles of Winston Salem, NC and Katonya (Lonnie) Smith of High Point, NC; four grandchildren, Kevin Alexander Eccles, Kelsi Eccles, Britney Smith, and Brooke Smith; one sister, Fannie (William) Johnson of Newport News, VA; one brother, Charles Ridgill of Manning, SC; a devoted niece, Mary Ann Robinson; a devoted caregiver, Ailene Reynolds; a special friend, Johnnie Bussey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Saints Home United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am on Saturday at the Church.
