Obituary

Mae Frances Crosby was born to Mary White Woods on August 10, 1927 in Blacksburg, South Carolina. She retired from Salem Academy and College after 30+ years of dedicated service as a switchboard operator and mentor. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Woods; daughter, Mary Jo Durbin; son-in-law, Reverend Charles H. Smith, Jr.; grandson, Dameon D. Smith; and great-great-great granddaughter, Nai'Ari Lattimore.

She was a member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church where she served with the missionary department and volunteered in the nursery. Prior to joining St. Stephen, she was a member of Dellabrook Presbyterian Church. She was an inspiration to many and had a heart of gold.

Mae's memories will be cherished by her son, Frederick "Red" Crosby; her daughters, Marie (Hiawatha) Bethea and Barbara C. Smith; grandchildren, Sonya Switzer, Tuajuana Durbin, Anthony Johnson-Bethea, Kesha & Kamal Crumblin, Charles (Amesha) Smith, III, Jade (Dameon, d.2021) Smith, Cherese (Elias) Blue, and Stephanie (Chris) Miles; 29 great grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 12:30pm Friday, January 17, 2025 at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 12:30pm on Friday at the Church.
