On Friday, June 16, 2023, Heaven rejoiced and welcomed our family's matriarch into the arms of her dear Savior.
Mable Sloan Hauser was born on August 15, 1927 in Belton, South Carolina to the late Ardie Mae Sloan King and raised by her grandfather Johnnie Sloan.
Mrs. Hauser was affectionately known by many names, such as, "Mother Hauser, Cousin Mable, Grandma, Mama and First Lady." She was educated in Anderson County, SC schools and retired from RJR Tobacco Company after 27 years of service. Upon retirement, she implemented her entrepreneurialism to start a daycare in her home in 1988. In 1990, Mrs. Hauser expanded her business through a collaboration with the outreach ministry of Freedom Baptist Missionary Church. Over 300 children received affordable childcare, biblical and pre-k education, nurturance, and a good home cooked meal for over 20 years.
Mrs. Hauser and her late husband, Reverend Waldo S. Hauser, Sr. (married for 65 years), founded Freedom Baptist Church in Winston-Salem in 1981. There she supported her husband's ministry and the gospel of Christ in multiple capacities. While she served on several auxiliaries, including the Kitchen Committee, and Nursing and Deaconess Boards, her greatest contribution was providing a safe and loving home to children in foster care and anyone else that needed a place to stay.
Mrs. Hauser enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes such as The Happy Home Savings Club, cooking, and baking delectable pies and cakes. She fed many people with her home cooked meals filled with love and hope. Mrs. Hauser had a deep love for her church family. She attended Sunday School and weekly Bible Study on a regular basis up until the day of her transition. She loved her "Big Hats" and often led songs during pre-service devotions. She wholeheartedly embraced frequent fellowships to ensure the family stayed together and she had a great love for her large extended family who met annually at The Sloan Family Reunion in various locations throughout the United States.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Waldo S. Hauser, Sr.; and brothers and sisters, Eddie King, Robert King, Ike Sloan, Booker T. Sloan, Azalea King, Daisy Ligons, Viola Rucker, and Willie Mae Dean.
Her greatest memories will be cherished in the hearts of her children: Charlena (Hunter) Hill, Pauline Harris, Shirley (James) Salter, Waldo (Arnetta) Hauser, Jr., Charles Hauser, Sr., and Argentina Hauser, all of Winston-Salem; one sister-in-law, Ms. Mattie Mae Glenn; 20 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 54 great- great grandchildren; along with a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and close friends.
The family visitation will be conducted on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Freedom Baptist Church, 1222 E. 14th Street in Winston-Salem. A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1212 N. Dunleith Ave, Winston-Salem, where Pastor Stephen Tyndall of Freedom Baptist Church will preside over the service. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The homegoing service will be live streamed through the Ed Sloan Family Reunion website.
