Obituary

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith…"
2 Timothy 4: 7 KJV
The angels escorted Mabel Evans Perry to her heavenly home on Friday, May, 7, 2010.
She was born on December 1, 1915 to Nathaniel and Beulah Evans in Cary, NC.
She moved to Winston-Salem at an early age and was educated in the public school system. She relocated to Reading, PA where she worked at Community General Hospital and was a member of Zion Baptist Church. After retirement, she returned to Winston-Salem in 1990, where she was a resident of Granville Place until her health declined in June, 2007. At that time she became a resident of the Lutheran Home until her death. She was a faithful member of First Waughtown Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Missionary Board and Nurses Board. Although her health did not allow her to physically worship with her church family, her faith remained strong.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Nathaniel Evans, Bessie West, Ettie Greene, and Eunice Cuthrell.
She leaves to cherish her memory; two sons, Donald (Elizabeth) Perry of Laurinburg, NC and Franklin (Gwendolyn) Perry of Reading, PA; two daughters, Josephine "Delrae" Lockhart of Winston-Salem, NC and Carolyn Johnson of Boston, MA; 17 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren, great- great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Homegoing celebration will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at First Waughtown Baptist Church, 838 Moravia Street. The family visitation will be held from 1:30pm until 2:00pm on Wednesday at the church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest beside her sister, Bessie West.
The family will assemble and leave from the home of her grandson, Ronald Lockhart, 501 W. 26th St.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Lutheran Home and Forsyth Medical Center for the excellent care they provided for Mrs. Perry.
