Mr. Luther Frank Johnson, 42, of Winston-Salem peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 8, 2014 at Novant Health-Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born September 6, 1972 in Iredell County, son of Willie Ervin Johnson and the late Mary Lynn Dalton Johnson. He was educated in the Iredell County Schools and graduated from North Iredell High School. He continued his education at Mitchell Community College. At an early age, he joined First Baptist Church in Harmony and later moved his membership to Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church in Winston Salem. He served as a deacon, usher, and van driver at GCACC. He was employed as a Dock Supervisor by Old Dominion Freight Line. His passion was drag racing and he was a part of various race teams.
In addition to his mother, Mary Lynn Dalton Johnson he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Luther and Beluah Dalton, paternal grandparents David and Rosie Johnson, father and mother in law, Boyce Hue and Mary Lois Smith, one uncle Charlie A. Johnson and one nephew Kenyon Johnson.
He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, his wife of 22 years, Donna Smith Johnson; six sisters Catherine (Stephen) Holmes of Palm Bay, Florida, Eva (Ronald) Wilkins, Stella Johnson, Mary (James) Caldwell all of Statesville, Tonya Johnson of Harmony and Jennifer Johnson of Salisbury; two brothers Ervin (Cindy) Johnson of Kingsport, Tennessee and Samuel (Tamara) Johnson of Troutman; two brothers-in-law Boyce (Sherry) Smith of California and Eddie (Sophia) Smith of Taylorsville; one aunt, Vanessa (Thomas) Peele of Charlotte; four uncles, James Johnson of Winston Salem, Leroy (Arnetha) Johnson of Woodleaf, Clarence (Maurice) Johnson of Concord and Conley (Teresa) Wellman of Taylorsville; grandmother, Julia Carson Dalton of Yadkinville; eight god-children, Kaitlyn Moore, Chris Brown Jr., James "Squirt" Turner III, Andy Regenthal, Mikeyla Moore, Keisha Millsaps, Darius and Taliyah Johnson. One god-sister Bailey (Jimmy) Rayford of Richmond, Indiana and special friends including Rick Moore, Buzz Gardner, Tyrone Crowner, Ken Regenthal, Shannon Jenkins, Mike Castellana, Rickie Smith, Keith "Bear" Handy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church with Bishop Sheldon McCarter officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
