Mrs. Lula Mae Hairston Edwards transitioned to her new life on April 7, 2014. She was born in Forsyth County, NC on January 23, 1935 to Charles and Mary Hairston.

She attended the local public schools and was later united in matrimony with Lee Walter Edwards.

Mrs. Edwards was a lifelong member of Friendship Baptist Church, a retiree of RJ Reynolds, and later on worked for Budd Services.

Mrs. Edwards enjoyed her life and the people in it. She will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers; six sisters; and her son-in-law, Alfred Parks.

Mrs. Edwards is survived by her son, Thurmond (Martha) Edwards; two daughters, Theressa Edwards Parks and Tammy Edwards all of the city; three grandchildren, Brittany (Henri) Newkirk, Courtney Parks, and Koryell Williams of the city; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley (Nathaniel) Davis of the city and Mrs. Elizabeth McCain of Philadelphia, PA; her Goddaughter, Charlesetta Taylor; Godson, Terry Shields; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, April 11, 2014 at Friendship Baptist Church with Reverend William Koger officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Friday at the Church
